Mary Jane McCartney

Mary Jane McCartney served as Con Edison’s Senior Vice President, Gas Operations, from October 1, 1993 until her retirement in May 2009. She joined Con Edison in 1980 as Director, Fuel Oil Supply and subsequently served in a variety of executive posts ranging from Assistant Vice President, Environmental Affairs to Vice President, Queens Customer Service, to Vice President, Gas Supply. In each position, she was the first female to have held the job.

Prior to joining Con Edison, Ms. McCartney held a variety of trading and analytical posts at Royal Dutch/Shell. Ms. McCartney earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics from Fordham University and did graduate work in Math and Computer Science at New York University’s Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences. In 1996, she earned a Certificate in International Business at INSEAD University in Fontainebleau, France.

Since 1992, she has been a trustee of the New York Hall of Science and for several years served as a Vice Chair. She also has served on the Fordham College Board of Visitors since 2004, which she chaired for three years. She has served as a board member for the Alive in Hope Foundation of the Diocese of Brooklyn since 2007. Past board services include: president of the Society of Gas Lighting, five-year chair of the board of the Institute of Gas Technology, and several years as a director of the Northeast Gas Association.

A long-time member of St. Margaret parish in Middle Village, NY, Mary Jane serves on its Finance Committee as well as its Pastoral Planning Council. For many years, she has been responsible for scheduling lectors and extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, both of which positions she holds.

Mary Jane and her husband George have four grown children and several grandchildren, all located in and around New York City.
