My colleagues, family and friends know I am a diehard college basketball fan, as well as a collector of inspirational quotes. As I contemplated my next New Developments column, I stumbled across a favorite quote from the legendary college basketball coach and humanitarian, John Wooden:
“You can’t live a perfect day without doing something for someone who will never be able to repay you.”
It captures the very essence of the work done by Catholic Foundation for Brooklyn and Queens (CFBQ). In years past, CFBQ was often considered one of philanthropy’s best-kept secrets. However, thanks to your generosity, and many others like you, CFBQ continues to provide grants for programs and institutions in the Brooklyn Diocese. These individuals (whether they be senior priests, Catholic immigrants or youngsters interested in becoming more involved in the Church) will never be able to repay you for your generosity. Your benevolence provides the greatest gift of all – opportunity. While none of us are perfect, you are giving hope to those who may be forgotten or marginalized.
We need you. Those whom we serve need you. The need is still there. If you have already contributed this year, I thank you for your generosity. If not, I hope this edition of New Developments serves as an incentive to do so, again and again. Please consider matching or increasing your last contribution and inform your family, friends and colleagues about the Foundation.
