A Mass of Thanksgiving honoring the members of the Fons Vitae Society was celebrated at the Cathedral Basilica of St. James in Brooklyn on the morning of Saturday, November 1, 2014.
The annual Mass, celebrated by Bishop Paul Sanchez, was attended by nearly 30 friends and family members of the Fons Vitae Society, which translates into “the Fountain of Life” Society. The Fons Vitae Society is the Diocese of Brooklyn’s planned and estate giving organization, which allows members of the Diocese a way to make an impact on the Church beyond their physical life.
Bishop Sanchez in his homily spoke of how the spirit of those who passed still occupy the space they lived in on Earth and the need to honor those people and physical spaces.
At the end of the celebration, the new members of the Society were added to the Fons Vitae book which is housed at the Basilica and blessed by Bishop Sanchez before the congregation.
A light brunch was served in the basement of St. James following the Mass where guests were thanked by Bishop Sanchez and Monsignor Jamie J. Gigantiello, Vicar for Development, personally for their commitment to the Diocese.
